MISSIONARIES AROUND THE WORLD: A SALUTE!
"How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!" (Romans 10:15)

As we celebrate the Missions Month (October 2017), the school administration, teachers and students of Wisdom Grade School, honors and salutes the selfless sacrifices of missionaries around the world.

They are meant  to travel and carry the 'good news' up to the ends of the earth. Without hesitation, without fear and no amount of hunger could cease them until the work has been done. A community of people sent to preach, sometimes praised and at times despised, who chooses to tell the good news even in the wilderness in exchange to leave their own families behind and walks barefooted.

From all of us at Wisdom Grade School, we will pray for your safety and for the provisions of your needs.

Praying for God's protection and empowerment to all the missionaries around the world. GOD BE WITH YOU, ALWAYS!

Encourage and pray for your missionary friend today!
SHARE this encouragement, let it flow.

Bad Words @ School

Caution: To my young readers foul words ahead. Read the whole content to understand its importance.

HOW WOULD YOU REACT IF THE WORDS 'PU_ANG IN_' NYO, MGA GAG_! W_LANGHIY_! WOULD COME FROM THE LIPS OF A 6-YEAR OLD CHILD?

Are the Senior Citizens Aware that the Young Filipino Generation is Looking Up to Them?

One of the very reasons why I decided to put my own blog is to scribble what is happening at school everyday. I actually regret those days when something remarkable came up at school and I had no means of jotting it down, writing is time-consuming and my dexterity is inconsistent.

One of those 'happenings' happened last week, and I cannot just let it pass because it touches the present and stirring issue of ethics at the Senate, reflected by a Grade-1 student.

It happened this way. The children were playing, it was their recess time. They are free to relax and eat their meals. While they were running to and fro, I heard multiple cursings in a loud voice. S_N OF A _ITCH! IMBECILE! SHAMELESS! (This cursing will be tolerable in English, but try to try translate these in Filipino and imagine its being spoken by a child in a loud voice). My face turned red. Its a GO!

To make the story short, I reprimanded the student and asked him to bring his parents the next day. The next day the parents came, surprised!? They believed their son is a very good example of a good boy..... at home. They are not aware that in school that 'good boy' is totally different.

The core question: Where did you learn to curse?
The answer: Kay Duterte po!
We were surprised, both his parents and I.
Again, I asked: Bakit kay President Duterte, How?
The student answered: Grandpa always listens to him on the radio and telision, and I heard Duterte saying PU_ANG IN_".

In his innocence, he learned that the 's_n of a _itch' curse was just a casual statement. I am thinking how many young Filipinos at school will fall into this mind-conditioning, subliminally.

Another culprit I believe that contribute to this is, the airwave. Before, television and radio programs used that 'beep-beep' sound when some pundits being interviewed said something that is lewd or immoral. It seems they do not do that anymore, did the programming changed? TV programs before had this way of saying PASINTABI PO! or blurring the scene to make it unrecognizable, when they show video clips that are brutal or would send a cultural shock to the people, most especially in time when children at home. They used to show respect!

Let me remind you that, I am not blogging this to make some hateful remarks against the President. I am an educator, I ponder academic questions. The issue in reference to what happened in our school is like an image that reflects our society. If I would believe that cursing is just normal and I would use that same language in teaching my students, then everything will be fine. Everything we say and do are the same, and our morality runs on the same path, our society will be coherent at that point, but we are being ruled by our conscience and there are laws that governs us all to put us in the right perspective that is peaceful and respectful. Our conscience is there to signal us if what we say or do is in contrast with goodness.

The President of the Philippines is like a father to the Filipino People. A father who nurtures, disciplines and protects his sons and daughters against enslavement of any kind.

Figuratively, if we are his biological children and our surname is Duterte, then that old and timeless Filipino saying would apply. HINDI MAMUMUNGA NG BAYABAS ANG PUNO NG MANGGA or like that old TV ad would suggest ANG MALING GAWAIN NG MATANDA AY NAGIGING TAMA SA PANINGIN NG BATA.

I just wish our President would be more dignified in his words. Our young generation is looking up to him.

The Holy Bible says:
"The mouth of the righteous brings forth wisdom, but a perverse tongue will be cut out." Proverbs 10:31 (NIV)

THE SOUL BROTHERS CONCERT:
MY PERSONAL REVIEW

The concert was one hour late!
Thirty minutes is understandable but one hour of waiting will test your patience.

Some artists I have seen in time before the concert; Gary V., Tom Rodriguez, Carla Abellana, Jed Madela, Coleen Garcia, and Vice Ganda.

I rarely watch concerts of all sorts, it is not actually my cup of tea, unless it is a concert of Mr. Pure Energy Gary V. or a concert of that Lady called Ms. Saigon, Leah Salonga. It just happened that a friend of mine bought two tickets to watch the JayR, Billy Crawford and Kris Lawrence concert last night (Sept. 15, 2017) and to my surprise, they are soul brothers indeed!

Their voices is out of the question. The Soul Brothers can really, really sing! Only with few hard to hear missed riffs and runs and sharp notes, nevertheless the "brothers" kept it going. JayR and Kris are two serious RNB artists and Billy is a doze of fun, a mix of talents which made the concert flows like a tide, with highs and lows. I noticed that their spiels are impromptu, that is why I sensed some dead air. They are also looking at one another on who's next to do a part of the song.

Kris almost missed his shoe in the early part of the concert, is it? Or is it because of the great lightings on the stage that made my eyes see things?  I also noticed Kris, there are times that he is distant from the two on stage, but I can tell he truly treasures his daughter and his Mom. JayR is an epitome of pitch perfect, like a real brother he catches Kris' sharp note on that medley they are doing when Kris was about to make a transition. Maybe he was suddenly disoriented because before he hit that note in about 20 seconds, Billy whispered something to him.

To those who watched and listened carefully Billy's wireless mic malfunctioned three times.

When it comes to dancing, Billy has an edge because he was trained to do it. But if the 3 brothers danced freely on stage, I mean dancing without looking at each other and still turned synchronized, it will be perfect!

The entire stage production is commendable, the lights are awesome.

Their medley with Jay Durias, the Southborder "Legend" or the "Godfather of Soul" as they called him on stage seemed not well rehearsed. Doing the song Kahit Kailan pre-ends with a high-soaring note. We all know that most Filipinos loved belting and if a vocalist cannot duplicate that, the Filipino audience will sense it. Aside from that 'good to the ear' Southborder medley, I just wished they did more songs in a capella, because they sounded good when they are blending, it will allow their souls to carry those tunes up in mid-air.

The Soul Brothers in the middle of their OPM Medley asked Gary V. to participate. Gary's voice is one of a kind, it puts a mark, it has identity. Singing two lines from his own songs, one can hear that Mr. Pure Energy sings from his heart and soul. Hitting the first notes, the crowd went hysterical. And so am I.

Is JayR aware that he said "Filipino kasi KAYO" (refering that most Filipinos like karaoke), or is it because his Tagalog words comes on installment basis?

The choreography and the dancers are good enough, but to be honest I cannot feel them. I am not saying that I did not appreciate their efforts but aside from their well-toned bodies, which I am envious. G-Force needs a little more of that "feeling" when they dance. I am not a dancer, but in every endeavor there must be a purpose. Dancing is like singing, a viewer must feel and experience the pain and the joy of what dancing brings, not just moves pushed by choreography, to be honest they need more grace and more flexibility.

Punchlines like MMDA, Burger King, Billy the Bully, elevator shoes, naka-trench coat ka pa, etc... are good ones, but Belo is out of context since Cathy Valencia was one of their major sponsors.

Bench was one of their sponsors, but I certainly believe it did not cover their costumes on stage. Those things they wore last night seemed like an array of the artists individual decisions that is why they looked mismatched. Next time they need a wardrobe stylist.

Filipino songs are the best. I am a fan of well-crafted lyrics. Singing Filipino songs is like reciting a poetry in all forms, in this concert, Gloc-9 helped the Soul Brothers to amplify soul through his raps. My favorite song of Gloc-9 is Upuan. One of the most relative, political satire songs I used in my dissertation at UP Diliman.

I am not writing this because someone gave me a free ticket. We bought those tickets, we sat at orchestra, right side, row 21 seat nos. 12 & 13. I am writing this at free will, because I enjoyed the concert, stating that, the two and a half hour concert of the Soul Brothers is not boring. Good thing!!

Now about the venue before I end this.
KIA Theater is a disappointment when it comes to seats, from the place where we are seated there are no leg rooms and from seat to seat the distance is too narrow and tight.

By the way, a piece of something I have noticed when it comes to audience. Most of the people you had last night were listeners, and when we listen, we keep quiet. I think people came to hear your soulful voices, meaning we are not there to squeal or thump our feet. The set of audience last night is to appreciate in a truthful manner by not faking. Sometimes silence shows more of deeper appreciation.

In the last concert of Pentatonix at the Big Dome (Sept. 24, 2016), we were so disappointed because the youth crowd was so annoying and shouting in-between songs, it was earsplitting. Even the Pentatonix beg to have some silence because they are an a capella group. The people do not understand that they need silence to get their proper keys before each songs. The rowdy crowd kept on going with their misbehavior, that concert became less than what we paid for.

To JayR, Billy and Kris, Congratulations for a job well done. See you soon on your next concert.

WHEN OPRAH WINFREY QUESTIONS
THE ESSENCE OF GOD IS A JEALOUS GOD

After watching some You-Tube video clips, when Oprah had a discussion with Christians and non-Christians about this passage in the Scripture, it made me think if what she's saying is worth a discussion, knowing she's intelligent enough to fathom this on her OWN.

Let's be honest, not all Christians would understand the true meaning of these passages by just one-reading , that is one of the reasons why we have Bible Studies. To comprehend that God is talking to us when we read the Bible and talking to God when we pray is a two-way communication that sometimes as God-created beings, we falter.

The Holy Bible stated:
"You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments."
Exodus 20:4-6 (NIV)

'Them' represents idols (idolatry).
This means big and small sculptures of wood, stones, plastic and other sorts that some religions put in their so called altars in which they offer their prayers and worships or it could be a living person whom a lot of people admire or look up to.

Oprah rationalized that God cannot be jealous because to her the jealous word is not Godly, it depicts imperfection. After listening to her words of confusion, it made me sad because I admire her as a person of sensibility, a lady who's intellect is worth listening to and a vessel of inspiration.

In contrary, this is what I believe;
If we are going to base jealousy in human perspective, it will always be rooted from hate, anger, envy, mistrust, insecurity, selfishness and so on. God's jealousy is holy. He doesn't want us to stray away from Him because He knows dreadful things are ahead of us if we become misguided by someone or something else, aside from His perfect love. Imagine our frailty as a human being, how deep does it hurt if the people we love turned their backs on us? A minuscule compared to God's sorrow.

That jealousy character of God is offering comfort not disaster, a warm embrace not a flare of fire and an unconditional love not hate. We must remember, if we take any part of the Bible that is meant for His Holiness and use it otherwise or against Him, God cannot be mocked.

10 years is about to pass and, I am just wondering if Ms. Winfrey is still confused about Exodus 20:4-6. In God I pray. I HOPE NOT!
